Sultan Suleyman The First’s Constantinople And His Turks – Eyewitness Views of Life in Constantinople in the 1550’s, Paperback, 8 ½ x 11, © 2017, 127 pages

A fascinating and complete eyewitness view of Constantinople in the mid 1500’s, from formal dress, kitchenware, a variety of hats, construction of buildings, military uniforms, horse accoutrements, carriages, laborers’ clothing, ladies’ dress, coins…everything of the everyday life in Constantinople in the 1550’s.

Done as woodcuts by famous Danish artist Melchior Lorch as an assignment while in the embassy of Austria, then assigned to Constantinople. This is a small portion, supposedly, of his entire production of artwork on the famed city, but possibly the only portion of it to be recovered and available to the public.

For anyone interested in Constantinople, Turkey at the time, or needing to have an accurate representation of these real life day to day necessities… this book will provide much interesting information about a life and a place we hardly know.
